On June 24, 2015, Toyota released the architectural design of the new North American Toyota headquarters in Plano, Texas. The buildings and outdoor spaces help to support our “One Toyota” vision by encouraging creativity and discovery. As well as this great event, the Toyota Ever-Better Expedition for North America was launched. Read more about this great expedition in our previous blog post here.
This amazing new architectural design includes:
A central plaza, surrounded by seven, up to five story tall, buildings. The plaza includes fitness, conferencing, and dining facilities.
Water irrigation features.
Office buildings and parking structures.
Solar panels for renewable energy.
Mostly glass building fronts, with many roof overhangs on the southern sides for shade;

For 110 days, 140 Toyota engineers and other members of the
Toyota team will be traveling a distance of 16,500 miles in nine Toyota cars,
to experience first-hand the Toyota driving experience.
These drivers will
travel through some of the most challenging driving environments in North
America in this expedition called, The Ever-Better Expedition.
The purpose of
this great expedition is for our Toyota engineers to take what they learn from
the road and apply it to the designs for future Toyota cars, bettering our
customers’ future driving experiences. This expedition is the second leg to Toyota’s
Five Continents Driving Project.
For this expedition, Toyota is also introducing the Toyota Ultimate Utility Vehicle (UUV), as shown in the picture below. The UUV is a custom made Toyota Sienna body atop a Toyota Tacoma’s base frame, built for display at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) conference. It features off-road tires, rear-hinged front doors, and a custom front bumper.

In our previous blog post, we gave you our ROAD TRIP PRO TIPS. Some tips included making sure your tires are properly inflated and getting a quick vehicle inspection at our dealership. Today, we're sharing tips on minimizing distractions. To ensure a safe ride, stay on your toes and keep your eyes on the road!
It is very important to minimize distractions while driving. Avoid multitasking! Also, avoid driving while you are tired or exhausted. According to a 2006 study, driver inattention – from fatigue or a driving distraction - was a contributing factor in nearly 80 percent of crashes. Nearly 80 percent. Or four out of five.
A driving distraction is anything that takes your eyes (visual) or your mind (cognitive) off the road or your hands off the wheel (manual). source And some of the more dangerous distractions are a combination, such as texting, which involves all three. source But there are a lot of behaviors that distract or make us inattentive. Here are some to avoid:
Eating and drinking – Chomping down a burger on the way home from work? This seemingly innocent activity is not only a visual and manual distraction, it also happens with extreme frequency, making it more of a hazard. And according to Insurance.com, some foods are more dangerous than others. Top no-no consumables in the car: hot coffee and soup, tacos, chili, hamburgers, barbecued food, fried chicken and jelly donuts. source
Grooming – Other not-so-innocent distractions. Save shaving for the shower and lay off putting on lipstick behind the wheel.
Talking with passengers – Restricting this behavior can be difficult, especially with inquisitive children in the vehicle. A quick tip: be sure they are properly and safely buckled up and give them books, toys or games to occupy their time.
Adjusting the radio or climate controls – Adjust vehicle controls, such as mirrors, heat or air conditioning, before you begin your trip. Take advantage of normal stops to adjust controls or ask your passenger to adjust controls.
Fatigue – Driving while drowsy results in a four- to six-times higher near-crash/crash risk.Long trips can be tough on children and you. Plan to stop along the way to take a group stretch, get something to eat and drink, return any calls or text messages, and change drivers if you’re feeling tired or drowsy.
Using a cell phone – Of course, using a cell phone remains one of the most dangerous distractions. Activities performed when completing a phone call (reaching for a phone, looking up a contact and dialing the number) increased crash risk by three times. Put another way, taking your eyes off the road for 5 seconds is like driving the length of an entire football field at 55 mph wearing a blindfold. source
Summertime, when there's plenty of sunshine and the kids are out of school. It's time to make your plans for that extra special family road trip. As summer travel season gets underway, it's important to keep in mind these very important ROAD TRIP PRO TIPS and keep your family safe this summer.

Boogie down the road on safe tires. Be sure your tires are properly inflated. The correct PSI (found in owner's manual or driver's side door sticker) not only improves tire safety but can also improve gas mileage up to 3 percent saving you a few bucks.
Build an emergency kit. Include a cell phone charger, bottled water, nonperishable food, first aid kit, flashlight, flares, white flag, maps, paper towels, and basic repair tools (including duct tape, jumper cables, work gloves).

Block out driver distractions. Texting, dialing or just reaching for a phone can triple your risk of crashing. Let your passenger pick the summer playlist.
